Kara Peterson is the co-founder of Descrybe, a Boston-based legal tech startup launched in July 2023. Descrybe leverages AI to democratize legal access, disrupting the legal research landscape by making powerful tools dramatically more affordable and accessible. Today, the platform serves more than 70,000 users each month. Kara leads Descrybe’s marketing and business development, driving product innovation, strategic partnerships, and national outreach.
She is also the co-founder and co-host of Building AI Boston, a widely recognized and fast-growing show that debuted in December 2024. Broadcast on radio stations across New England and reaching over 20,000 downloads per month on podcast platforms, the show features leading voices in AI and has become a trusted resource for making technology more accessible to all.
A seasoned marketing communications executive, Kara has dedicated her career to advancing social justice. She has held leadership roles at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Boston University School of Public Health, and Suffolk University Law School. Kara is an active leader and volunteer across the AI ecosystem, particularly within legal tech, FemTech, and women-in-business communities. She previously served as Chair of the Communications Committee for the Justice Technology Association and is the inaugural co-chair of Boston University’s Questrom Women in Business Alumni Affinity Council. Kara also contributes to the all-volunteer AI Blueprint for Massachusetts initiative.
Kara is a frequent public speaker and published thought leader. Her leadership at Descrybe has earned multiple accolades, including a 2024 Anthem Award for Best Use of AI, a Webby Award nomination, and two American Legal Technology Awards for Startup of the Year and AI Innovation. She was named a “Woman of Legal Tech 2024” by the American Bar Association and, in 2024, was invited to serve as a judge for both the Webby and Anthem Awards as a member of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS).
Kara earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin and her MBA from Boston University’s Questrom School of Business. She lives in Greater Boston with her husband, two human children, and two canine children.
