Kristina is an Associate Professor at Rutgers University School of Communication and Information. Her research meets at the intersection of interpersonal, family, and health communication with a particular focus on difficult family transitions and the process of marginalization. Kristina most often examines marginalization in the contexts of relational/family distancing, complicated health diagnoses, and disenfranchised student populations.

Estrangement is pretty varied in terms of what it can look like. The expectations we have for each other also vary quite a bit. Some people feel they don’t need to enact these roles anymore, and some people aren’t enacting those roles, which is part of the problem.
