Dr. Luke Macyszyn is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurosurgeon specializing in the minimally invasive treatment of complex spinal disorders, such as degenerative disease, disc herniation, scoliosis and spine tumors in both children and adults. Keenly focused on motion preservation, he uses leading-edge technology to ensure that his patients not only receive the best outcomes, but also return to their normal lives and activities as quickly as possible.
With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Macyszyn joined DISC from the UCLA Heath Spine Center, where he directed the Complex Spinal Disorders and Deformity Research Program and also served as Associate Professor of Neurosurgery, Radiation Oncology and Orthopedics. In this capacity, he led an NIH-funded laboratory aimed at using artificial intelligence to improve the diagnoses and management of patients with spinal disorders.
Dr. Macyszyn prides himself on his nuanced approach to patient care and the diagnosis of spinal pathology, leaning into his extensive research background to thoroughly understand each case and personalize treatment. Well respected by his peers, he has authored numerous publications and book chapters on neurological surgery, spine surgery and image analysis.
Dr. Macyszyn received his undergraduate degree in Biology and Psychology from Cornell University before earning his medical degree from Boston University, where he graduated with AOA honors. He completed his neurosurgical training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania under Dr. Sean Grady and completed a clinical fellowship in spinal deformity surgery at Shriners Children’s Philadelphia with Dr. Amer Samdani.
Often called on to lecture around the world, Dr. Macyszyn has been featured on the “TODAY Show” and has been honored as a Southern California Super Doctor every year since 2017. When he’s not busy returning his patients to action, he is an avid cycler, skier and “always learning” wine enthusiast.
