Maru Valdes is the Founder of MV Collective, a boutique public relations firm based in Washington, D.C., specializing in hospitality, lifestyle, and nonprofit clients. Named Latina Entrepreneur of the Year in 2024, Maru brings over two decades of expertise in public relations and strategic communications, helping brands earn attention, build influence, and spark meaningful engagement.
Her nonprofit and international development experience includes leading global communications for World Wildlife Fund’s wildlife conservation portfolio and spearheading strategic communications for Save the Children to advance fundraising and humanitarian goals. She also held key roles at the World Bank, where she developed campaigns that elevated social impact programs across the globe.
In the private sector, Maru served as head of communications for ThinkFoodGroup, the company behind Chef José Andrés’ award-winning restaurants and humanitarian work. There, she led public relations, internal strategy, integrated campaigns, and special events, advising leadership and partners on high-impact communication efforts.
Maru’s deep hospitality expertise is reflected in her professional and personal investments. She is a partner in Colada Shop, Michelin-starred Bresca, and Serenata, a celebrated Latin cocktail bar at La Cosecha. She sits on the advisory board of Maximo Mezcal and is an active member of Les Dames D’Escoffier, a global organization of women leaders in food, beverage, and hospitality. Maru also serves on the Kitchen Cabinet of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, providing strategic insight on projects that explore the intersection of food, culture, and history.
She holds a BA in International Relations from the University of San Diego and a Master’s in Foreign Service from Georgetown University. With her diverse background and cross-sector expertise, Maru brings a holistic, culturally attuned approach to storytelling and strategy.
