Robert Maddox is a Partner and the practice group chair of the 90+ attorney Banking & Financial Services Practice Group at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP. He represents financial institutions and mortgage companies across the United States. In the past decade, he has handled more national/multi-state state attorneys general investigations and related consent judgments than any attorney in the United States.
His work involves representing clients before the CFPB, DOJ, EOUST, OCC, FRB, HUD, SEC and multiple state regulatory agencies, including banking, finance and insurance agencies.
Robert is a regular speaker at national real estate programs and financial services industry conferences. He is a teacher with the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) as a Faculty Fellow on Real Estate Law and Regulatory Compliance at the School of Mortgage Banking (SOMB), Predatory Lending and Mortgage Fraud at the Regulatory Compliance Institute, and Servicing at the State and Local Litigation Conference.
Robert also is an adjunct professor at the Cumberland School of Law, where he teaches Real Estate Transfer, Finance and Development.
Banks were vilified in the last financial crisis. These banks stepped in again through their SBA programs for PPP and worked with their accounts on forbearance and things of that nature. But if history is any indication as to what will happen next, all of those institutions – both banks and nonbanks – will likely face heavy scrutiny. We’re spending a significant amount of time right now on reviewing what our clients have done over the past 12 months in great deal detail because they know they’ll be scrutinized for it.
