Shaun O’Brien, the founder of Selby Acoustics, draws from over 40 years of retail leadership experience working for some of the largest and most respected retail chains within Australia and New Zealand. In 2002, while still working full-time, Shaun started his first online HDMI cable store called Selby Acoustics. After two years of late nights and early mornings answering emails, listing products, and many trips to the post office, Selby Acoustics grew to the point where it needed Shaun full-time. Fast forward 20 years and today Shaun is a well-respected and successful eRetail entrepreneur and leader.

Shaun notes that while sleep headphones can block noise, "comfort and hygiene can get sidelined fast." He advises using wireless, low-volume options to avoid ear fatigue. Sound quality is average, focusing on non-distracting audio. Passive noise isolation is preferred. For optimal sleep, Shaun suggests "low-frequency loops without sharp peaks," like white noise or nature sounds.
  • Expert Tips for Choosing the Best Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker
Shaun explains IP ratings, noting IP67 offers superior protection but may affect audio quality. He advises considering context, sound quality, battery life, and portability. For budget buyers, focus on IP rating, battery life, and audio output. Multi-speaker pairing and EQ control are valuable features. Avoid common mistakes by aligning purchases with actual usage and checking wattage for sound quality.

However, they lack the audio depth of multi-speaker systems.” He adds, “Speakers provide superior sound quality and an immersive experience but require more space and setup complexity.” Combining a soundbar with speakers can enhance audio without the full commitment of a multi-speaker system.
