Sophia received a BA in Neuroscience from Grinnell College in Iowa and then graduated with a BA and a Masters in Philosophy from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. She completed medical school at the University of Minnesota, where she also did her residency in psychiatry, and my T32 postdoctoral fellowship in psychiatric comorbidity. Sophia is an adult Psychiatrist with a clinical focus on neuromodulation, deep transcranial magnetic stimulation (dTMS), treatment-resistant depression, mood disorders, translational neuroscience, women's mental health, and comorbid psychiatric disorders. Her research focuses on investigating novel treatments and diagnostic tools for characterizing pathological responses to trauma, which focuses on post traumatic stress disorder and depression.
With the help of an online support group, young widows and widowers are finding ways to forge a sense of community.
Particularly for people who have lost someone, it's like we need to understand what this life post-COVID looks like in a way that is going to incorporate everything we've lived through. We want to honor what we have lost, and at the same time acknowledge that we did make it through it — and hopefully have some sense of strength because of that.
