Dr. Stephen Quake is the Head of Science at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Founding Co-President of the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, and the Lee Otterson Professor of Bioengineering and Professor of Applied Physics at Stanford University. Dr. Quake has published more than 300 peer-reviewed papers and his contributions to the development of new biotechnology at the interface of physics and biology have been widely recognized. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Inventors, the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, and the American Physical Society.
Dr. Quake's interests lie at the nexus of physics, biology, and biotechnology. His research is concerned with developing new approaches to biological measurement and applying these approaches to problems of both fundamental and medical interest. Other areas of interest include genomic diagnostics, systems biology, microbial ecology, and single-cell genomics.
We in science and medicine aren't immune to the biases that lead to discrimination. It's time to take concrete steps to put science on a fairer and more productive path, say Michal Elovitz, Stephen Quake and Hannah Valantine
