Dr. Susanna F. Greer, Ph.D. is the Chief Scientific Officer of the V Foundation. In this role, Dr. Greer is a visionary ambassador of the V Foundation, who works with the V Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Committee to steer funding to the most promising research opportunities. An accomplished strategist, she develops and articulates priorities to enhance the V Foundation’s research portfolio, gifts, grants, and sponsorships that advance the V Foundation’s distinctive brand of cutting-edge and disruptive research.
Prior to joining the V Foundation, Dr. Greer was a Senior Scientific Director at the American Cancer Society where she led the Biochemistry and Immunology of Cancer Research Program, developed grantee advocacy and engagement activities, cultivated and stewarded donor and industry partners, hosted regular podcasts, scaled science communications workshops, and lead a company-wide intellectual property review and reporting process. Prior to ACS, Dr. Greer was recruited to Georgia State University as a Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Cancer Scholar where she directed the University Level Molecular Basis of Disease Program and was a tenured professor in the Department of Biology. At GSU, Dr. Greer and her team focused on defining key signaling pathways involved in the immune response to cancer and was responsible for key findings in molecular immunology and new epigenetic targets.
At GSU, Dr. Greer started her own scientific communications consulting agency that focused on teaching core professional science communication skills to the research community. She currently serves on the Council and the Finance Committee of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), having previously chaired the ASBMB Committee on Science Communication and Outreach. In 2022 Dr. Greer was named as an ASBMB Fellow and is also presently a member of the External Steering Committee for Nutrition and Cancer Prevention for the National Cancer Institute and National Institutes of Health. Dr. Greer previously served on peer review and grant selection committees before joining the ACS.
While Dr. Greer is frequently found in our Cary office, she resides in Atlanta with her husband, Chad, and son, Fletcher. She enjoys kayaking, hiking, is a Peloton addict, and is happiest in her (or any!) garden, likening the careful planning and execution of scientific experiments to the patience and pride of growing a perfect plant.
