Tabbassum Mumtaz is President and CEO of Ampex Brands, a Richardson, Texas-based multi-unit operator of Pizza Hut, KFC, Taco Bell, Long John Silver’s and 7-Eleven franchises. With 400 locations across the U.S. and revenues close to $500M, Ampex ranks 14th among the nation’s largest multi-brand franchisees. Ampex is also the franchisor for Au Bon Pain and owner/operator of Texas-based American bistro concept bellagreen.
Mumtaz came to the United States in the 90s and started his career as a cook and toll booth operator. He learned through his time on the Pakistan National Rowing Team that perseverance, patience and commitment would lead him to fulfilling the American Dream. He worked hard and quickly became a top performing manager in his restaurant. This success led him to the opportunity to become a franchisee.
Mumtaz became a franchisee of the Wendy’s Company in 1995. Through hard work and relentless dedication to excellence, he became a top performing franchisee at Wendy’s. Mumtaz has applied that success to about 400 operating restaurants and convenience stores, real estate and other direct investments.
The business has evolved over the years from its origins as a QSR franchise company to a group of affiliated companies that operate across multiple industries including maintenance management, back-office services, real estate development, strategic planning and development, landscaping and hydro jetting.
Ampex Brands shifted from franchisee to franchisor with the acquisitions of Au Bon Pain Bakery & Café in 2021 and bellagreen in 2022.
Mumtaz is a true servant leader. He is passionate about giving back and volunteering in his local communities. He has served as a board member of IFA, CASA, as well as Director on several other boards and founded the Apex Family Foundation.
He continues to grow Ampex Brands and is most proud of growing his team into fellow entrepreneurs and partners.
