Tetiana Kotelnykova is the founder of Brave Generation, a New York-based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting young Ukrainians affected by war -- through education abroad, mental health support services, and global leadership opportunities. Brave Generation has helped a 487-member network of Ukrainian students and facilitated $11.2 million in scholarships awarded to Ukrainian students. Tetiana is a graduate student at Yale University specializing in European and Russian Studies and a research assistant at the Wilson Center.

  • While international attention remains firmly focused on the military dimension of the war in Ukraine, it is crucial to recognize that Russia’s invasion is not merely an attempt to acquire new territory or redraw the map of Europe by force. The Kremlin also clearly aims to extinguish Ukrainian national identity, and sees the transformation of young Ukrainians into loyal Russians as a key element of this criminal endeavor.

When I see someone’s life taking a complete turn for the better, which is nothing close to what they imagined, I suppose that is one of the most fulfilling moments.
