People often ask how Thomas transitioned from a PhD track in Astrophysics at UPenn to a career in Venture Capital. The answer is actually not unintuitive – he spent most of his academic career building software for astronomy research, leveraging machine learning “before it was cool” to detect supernovae. When Insight allowed Thomas to leverage his technical training and build relationships with founders on the cutting edge of infrastructure software, he felt it was more like an adventure than a job. Thomas joined Insight as a summer intern in 2012 and is proud to have spent the first decade of his professional career working his way up the ladder from Analyst to Partner. In that time, he have helped Insight navigate their own ScaleUp journey, growing their headcount and fund size by over 10x.
Insight Partners announced earlier in September the sale of cybersecurity firm Recorded Future to Mastercard for $2.65bn.
It’s a key way in which our firm is differentiated.
We are venture-focused on partnering with next generation companies and helping them grow. It’s a private equity play in the sense that we work with a large fund, which gives us the opportunity to deploy a lot of hands-on help and assistance through value add programs. It gives us an opportunity to be quite creative and flexible when it comes to structuring large transactions.
