Dr. Vogel is widely regarded as one of the premier pediatric neurosurgeons in the country, known for his expertise in treating brain tumors, epilepsy, traumatic brain injuries, Chiari malformations, and congenital malformations of the brain and spine. Fellowship-trained in both minimally invasive surgery and pediatric neurosurgery, he is internationally renowned as an expert on hydrocephalus, and he recently led the first successful surgery for a baby born with exencephaly.
The director of pediatric neurosurgery at Hackensack University Medical Center, Dr. Vogel believes that a strong physician-patient-family relationship is fundamental to a good outcome for pediatric patients. He works hard to build personal connections with patients and families.
Dr. Vogel is an advocate for minimally invasive technology, and teaches courses each year to train other neurosurgeons in this approach. He holds several patents, has published numerous papers in top medical journals and is a sought-after presenter at international medical conventions. He has also completed postdoctoral fellowships at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of Iowa and at Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard Medical School and Harvard University.

“Lucas is a message of hope — it’s heartwarming but also an inspiration,” Dr. Vogel said. “So much good can come from this.”
