Valeria Scuto joined Sibylline in June 2020 as an Embedded Intelligence Analyst, before moving to the Global Intelligence Team as a Middle East, North Africa and Turkey Analyst in August 2021. Covering social, economic, political and security developments in the region as part of a wide-range of reporting, she has a particular focus on the Gulf, Libya, Israel and the Palestinian Territories, the role of non-state actors and regional energy security.
Before joining Sibylline, Valeria spent a year at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons, Belgium, working on the politico-military outputs of defence policy and planning for NATO. She was an active member of the Hybrid Community of Interest and was further nominated as a Gender Focal Point. Prior to this, Valeria worked on gender equality, countering hate speech and media development at the UNESCO National Office for Palestine, and on diplomatic consulting, strategic communication and inclusive political dialogues projects in the MENA region with Independent Diplomat in London.
Valeria holds a Master’s degree in Conflict Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Valeria is a native Italian speaker, has a working proficiency in French, and has matured an elementary proficiency in Arabic whilst living in Jerusalem and travelling across the region.
