Latin America Climate Reporter

New Posted 8 April 2025 | Rio de Janeiro | Bloomberg

Bloomberg News is one of the biggest financial and business news organizations in the world. We lead the way in breaking news and providing analysis on financial markets, from daily coverage through to in-depth features. We are known for our quality, accuracy and ability to deliver news investors can use. It’s what keeps us inventing and re-inventing, all the time.
We are seeking an experienced reporter to drive our coverage of how Latin America is confronting climate change. You will take on a vital beat with a wide remit, focusing on the dynamic intersection of business, science, politics and society. The successful applicant will be adept at delivering both breaking news and impactful feature stories.

This reporter will uncover the most compelling news from a region that’s home to the Amazon rainforest and innovative green policies, as well as being a major hub for oil and gas, mining and agribusiness. Brazil, which will host the COP30 summit this year, plays a growing role in global climate diplomacy as the US withdraws. While the US – historically Latin America’s biggest trading partner – turns toward protectionism, China has increased trade with the region and boosted green investment there. The journalist who fills this role will be able to identify the ripple effects of these changes and put them into context, and do so across the range of our platforms.

We’ll trust you to:

Generate story and project ideas that detail the impact of climate change in Latin America, and vividly illustrate the actions, trends and personalities that are shaping how countries respond
Break news on issues including climate and environmental policymaking, climate adaptation, and green energy, technology and investing
Connect the dots to pitch ambitious feature stories that resonate with a diverse and business-savvy audience
Collaborate widely with colleagues across teams, bureaus and continents to deliver a global perspective to our readers

You’ll need to have:

At least 5 years of experience in journalism
Experience reporting in Latin America, and preferably experience covering climate change
Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese
A demonstrated ability to conceive and deliver deeply reported features
Strong communication skills
Flexibility and willingness to travel across the region

We’d love to see:

Experience working in a fast-paced news environment
Familiarity with journalism across platforms, including digital, video, podcasts and data visualization

If this sounds like you, apply today! We're eager to speak with you.
Apply if you think we're a good match. We'll get in touch to let you know that the next steps are, but in the meantime feel free to have a look at:
