Latin America Columnist

New Posted 6 November 2023 | Mexico City, Mexico | Bloomberg

Bloomberg Opinion has a position open for a columnist based in Latin America who will cover the economy, business, politics and policy across the region. The ideal candidate will be a sophisticated thinker and a graceful writer who is analytically adept and confident writing with a strong point of view. Sometimes that will involve clear prescriptions. When clear prescriptions aren't readily available, asking probing and pivotal questions will be equally valuable to your audience. You should have an ability to put your arguments in context and draw on a range of financial and policy lenses to make your case. You will also be able to draw upon an stablished network of sources to help frame and develop your perspective.

You'll need to have:

Deep knowledge and familiarity with Latin America, with specific understandings of some the region's most powerful countries (including Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and Chile).
Fluency in Spanish. Fluency in Portuguese is a plus.
An advanced degree in a subject area relevant to your work and abundant journalistic experience.
An interest in understanding, simplifying, and transforming complicated situations, policy and data into graceful, accessible prose.
A willingness to work with a supportive team that expects the same collegiality and support from you.
A willingness to collaborate with your editors to refine your arguments and writing.
An interest in expanding the parameters of commentary into such multimedia realms as video, audio and data visualizations.
