Shannon Wherry has served as the Associate Director of External Communications for Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting since August 2023. In this role, Wherry directs global media and public relations initiatives, positioning not just the company, but its key executives, products, and services in the public eye, thereby increasing the overall visibility of Wolters Kluwer on a global scale.
Before assuming her current role, Wherry served as Vice President and Director of Corporate Communications, reporting to the CEO, for First Foundation Inc. (Nasdaq: FFWM) from June 2022. Her responsibilities in this role included managing strategic communications and public relations campaigns, ensuring alignment with business strategy, product direction, and market position to enhance the company's reputation both internally and externally. Additionally, she oversaw crisis management and reputational risk issues involving activist investor scenarios, reporting updates directly to the company's Board of Directors.
Prior to joining First Foundation, Wherry served as the Director of Corporate Communications for Texas Capital Bancshares (Nasdaq: TCBI) where she developed a comprehensive, integrated vision for external and internal communications, encompassing media relations, crisis management, and responsibility for the firm’s overall corporate communications initiatives. At Texas Capital, Wherry was a member of the bank’s executive leadership serving as an advisory member to the operating committee as well as serving on its Reputational Risk Committee. Before Texas Capital Bank, she was the Director of Corporate Communications for HBK Capital Management where she led the development and execution of global strategic communication plans, ensured ongoing delivery of the firm’s brand story, and supported its global growth. Additionally, Wherry has held positions with Highland Capital Management, Bernstein Global Wealth Management as well as Meritage, a division of Renaissance Technologies.
After graduating in 2004 with a degree in journalism and public relations from the University of North Texas, Wherry worked as a Trade Floor Support Manager for HBK Capital Management. In 2007, HBK sent her to Hong Kong where she conducted research while attending night classes at the University of Hong Kong. She received a Master of International and Public Affairs in 2008 from the internationally recognized institution. Through her educational and professional experiences, Wherry has developed a keen understanding of the global finance industry and a proven ability to break down complicated language and make ideas accessible to others.
Wherry is a graduate of Leadership Dallas 2022, the premier leadership development program in the Dallas Metroplex. She is also a Board Member of the World Affairs Council of Dallas Fort Worth and volunteers as a court-appointed special advocate (CASA), providing a voice for neglected and abused children in Dallas County, Texas.
