Job Introduction

The Ukrainian Service is one of the language services in the BBC World Service. It has a multiplatform website and a large amount of video and interactive content. The team is currently spread between Ukraine, Poland and London.

The service’s output aims to make international news relevant to the Ukrainian audience and bring international perspectives to bear on Ukrainian developments. It aims to report in a lively and engaging fashion, and interactivity forms a large part of its content across all platforms.

Main Responsibilities

As a Video Journalist you will use a range of video, audio and digital equipment to create news content for a Ukrainian audience. You will exercise editorial judgement to develop story ideas and produce accurate and impartial journalism.

Other responsibilities will include:

Liaising closely with other team members and with other departments in the BBC, to ensure that output material is shared, duplication is avoided, and best practice is upheld.
Taking e a lead within a team setting or on delivering a specific piece of journalism or project as appropriate.
Tailoring different news treatments for different audiences ensuring that the output reflects the audiences we serve.
Prioritizing and planning activities taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines, staffing and resources available.
Delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
At all times to carry out duties in accordance with the BBC health and safety policy.

Are you the right candidate?

Significant recent experience as a journalist, with a good knowledge of multimedia production techniques and writing skills.
Native proficiency in Ukrainian, ability to write and edit video scripts, essential.
High proficiency in English and the ability to communicate effectively, essential.
Knowledge of video editing, FCP, essential.
Filming skills, essential.
Experience with After Effects and motion graphics design is an advantage.
In depth understanding of content production for various social media and digital platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and others, in the Ukrainian media market and wider.
Strong editorial judgement, based on extensive video journalistic experience in Ukraine and wider region.
Thorough understanding of the principles of BBC journalism.
Demonstrable experience in covering Ukrainian and wider regional news stories and issues.
Ability to cover developments in Ukraine in video, both for the Ukrainian and global audiences.
